Description

This is a small board, the size of an RPi board, onto which you can plug the ‘local’ MagPi board/hat. It also comes with a Pololu USB C to I2C converter #5397 (with isolated power feed). It uses the mag-usb software written by David Witten. It is set to 5v to provide the power to the Pi Eliminator, and the MagPi board set and Magnetometer.

It works under Linux (so technically also on an RPi, I suppose, via USB serial port!), is likely to work on MacOS once you properly identify the serial port that the Pololu #5397 presents to the computer, but not on Windows (both serial port differences, and ‘Windows is not Linux’, so the necessary libraries and header files are not present for compilation/building to succeed.) But it will build on Linux running under the WSL subsystem on Windows.

See https://github.com/wittend/mag-usb for the Mag-USB software.

Mag-USB documents at https://mag-usb.readthedocs.io/en/latest/. This includes considerable discussion of the Pi Eliminator.

Some Photos are available, and will be supplemented shortly, along with a link to the manual, once the manual has been finished.

These photos currently available show my build, using M2 nylon screws, nuts, and washers, to mount the Pololu #5397 board onto the Pi Eliminator board. Make sure that the Pololu #5397 is set for ‘5v’, and is NOT set to ‘3v3’. This is what powers the remote magenetometer board (MagPi) with RM3100 sensor. You can use standard M2.5 RPi brass or nylon spacers to securely mount the MagPi ‘local’ board onto the Pi Eliminator
