Description
Sensitive receivers and preamplifiers may be damaged if exposed to too much RF input power. This could occur if a receiver is co-located with a powerful transmitter. This limiter can help prevent such damage. It will limit strong input signals to less than +10 dBm and is designed to fail “open”, blocking all input signals, if presented with about 1 watt or more of energy. For signals below about -6 dBm, it has less than 1 dB insertion loss through 54 MHz.
The TAPR RF Limiter is designed for use at 54 MHz and below. Operation at higher frequencies is possible if greater small-signal insertion loss can be tolerated. The RF Limiter does not require user assembly.
Important Note: In the presence of strong signals, the limiter is a non-linear device (a diode) and may generate undesired spurious signals that could be re-radiated from a connected antenna. Please keep this in mind to minimize interference to other services. Putting a bandpass filter in front of the limiter can reduce this re-radiation.
